A plug.dj alternative with a shared queue

YouTube-powered rooms where everyone adds songs and the room decides what survives.

What plug.dj was

plug.dj picked up where Turntable.fm left off: communities built their own rooms, people queued YouTube videos, and a waitlist decided whose track played next. Rooms grew their own regulars and rules, which is why its closure left so many groups without a home rather than just without an app.

What people actually miss about it

plug.dj refugees are usually looking for the room, not the software — a place their group can reassemble, queue YouTube links, and let the room vote. The YouTube part matters: it is what made the catalogue effectively unlimited and free.

Is plug.dj coming back?

plug.dj went offline without warning on 28 January 2021. On 9 February 2021 its operators said financial problems meant it could not keep running, and expressed hope of returning later. It had closed once before, in September 2015, and came back in 2016 — so people are reasonably wary of calling it gone for good. When we last checked, the domain did not serve the product: it redirected to an access-controlled login gate. We have found no announcement of a return since 2021.

Status last checked October 2026. We would rather hedge than tell you a service is dead when it is not — if this is out of date, tell us.

Common questions

Is plug.dj coming back?

It went offline in January 2021 and its operators cited financial problems in February 2021, saying they hoped to return. We have found no announcement of a return since. It did come back once before, after closing in 2015, so nobody should rule it out — but it has been quiet for years.

Does Listen Along use YouTube like plug.dj did?

Yes. Playback runs through YouTube, so the catalogue is effectively whatever is on there, and nobody needs a subscription. You can also paste Spotify or Apple Music links and we will find the matching track.

Can my old community get its room back?

You can create a room, set a password, and share the code or an invite link, so the same group can reassemble in a private space. Room customisation is much lighter than plug.dj offered — that is a real gap, not something we will pretend away.

Is there a waitlist so everyone gets a turn?

Not a literal waitlist. There is one shared queue with a per-person limit, so no single person can fill it, and the room upvotes songs to reorder what plays next.

No download, no subscription, and nobody needs an account to listen in a room you share with them.
